【What is Mecenat?】

Mecenat is a French word meaning “support for arts and culture” or “advocacy of culture,” and refers to corporate support of cultural and artistic activities. In Japan, it began to spread in the late 1980s. The most common form is funding, but there are also a variety of other forms, including the provision of human resources, operation of foundations and other organizations engaged in arts and culture-related activities, and sponsorship of arts and culture-related performances, competitions, and festivals.
