2019年3月2日・３日にわたり、イスラエルから演出家・俳優のオフェル・アムラムさんをお招きし、ワークショップとトークを開催いたしました。

オフェルさんが2016年から舞台演出家として関わっているアートセンター「Nalaga’at Center（ナラガット・センター）」は、盲ろう者、視覚障害者、聴覚障害者が関わる舞台作品の創作・発表をおこない、そのユニークな活動が国際的にも注目されています。

今回は、3月2日(土)に東京都港区の神明いきいきプラザにて開催したワークショップの模様をレポートします。

参加者は、聴覚または視聴覚に障害のある方々６名、スローレーベルのスペシャリスト７名、ほか介助通訳の方など3名の計16名。
スローレーベルとしても、これだけ多くの聴覚や視聴覚に障害のある方々が一度に参加するワークショップは初めてです。

こちらがイスラエルから来日されたオフェル・アムラムさん。優しい瞳が印象的です。

舞台の演出を手掛けるほか、パフォーマー、俳優としても活躍。人形劇の創作などもされています。

今回は日英通訳さん、日本語の手話通訳さん、そして画面左のスクリーンに会話内容を文字起こしする要約筆記さんによる多重の情報保障を行うことになりました。
弱視の聴覚障害のため至近距離での手話通訳を必要とする方もおられ、全体に向けての手話通訳を、再度個人に向けての手話通訳に通訳し直すこともあります。
参加者全員に情報を届けるために、それぞれの立ち位置を調節したり、スクリーンを移動させたりと、試行錯誤しながらのスタートです。

午前中は、まずオフェルさんが自身の活動を紹介。
ナラガットでのオフェルさんの舞台では、障害者パフォーマーだけではなく、手話通訳も役を演じながら舞台に上がるのが特徴的です。

今度は、参加者全員が輪になって、自分を表すハンドサインで自己紹介。

昼食を挟んで、いよいよワークショップがスタートです!

まずは二人でペアになって並び、後ろの人が前の人の肩に手を置きます。
そして、どちらか一人が目を閉じます。

オフェルさんの合図で、それぞれのペアが思い思いの方向に歩き始めます。
目を閉じた人が先導する場合も、目を閉じた人が先導される場合もあります。

触れ合っている肩と掌でコミュニケーションを取り合って歩いていかないと、他のペアとぶつかってしまいます。視覚に頼らずに歩くのは怖いですが、相手を信頼して歩を進めます。

二人の間に信頼関係が生まれたら、今度は触れ合う場所を指先どうし、そして肘や脇、お尻などとそれぞれ変化させていきます。

言葉にも視覚にも頼らないコミュニケーション。
普段の生活では使っていなかった回路が開いていくようです。

さて、体の感覚が開いてきたところで、体をほぐしていきましょう。

通訳さんもいっしょにジャンプ!

それぞれが好きな手話を元に、身体全体を使ったパフォーマンスに発展させていったり、オリジナルの手話を創作したりと、手話をベースにしながらも自由度に富んだクリエイションが続きます。

表現として手話を自由に作ったりしても良いんだ、というのは素朴な驚きでした。
もちろん、正しい手話（手話にもいろんな国の、いろんな種類の手話があるようですが）を使えるに越したことはないですが、まず伝えようという気持ちを動きにしてみること、それを読み取ろうとしてみることで始まるコミュニケーションもあるのですね。

そして、ワークショップは後半戦のグループワークへ。
オフェルさんが配ったのは、聖書から抜粋した四つのテキスト。
これを元に４つのグループに分かれてパフォーマンスを作っていきます。

手話を使える人も、使えない人も、身振り手振りでコミュニケーションを取り合いながら、パフォーマンスの制作を進めていきます。
手話通訳さん達も、いっしょに体を動かしながら通訳をしていていくうちに、いつの間にか半ばクリエイションに参加しているような状態に。

最後には、創作したそれぞれのパフォーマンスを発表。
同じテキストから発想されたパフォーマンスでしたが、結果としては一つ一つ全く異なった、オリジナリティ溢れる4つの作品が出来上がりました。
オフェルさんも、“Beautiful !”と驚きの声。

輪になってフィードバックを行ない、三時間に渡るワークショップは終了。

オフェルさんのお人柄もあってか、真剣ながらもとても穏やかな雰囲気に包まれたワークショップになりました。

一方で、今回は初めての試みであったこともあり、開催してみて初めて気づかされることも多くありました。
例えば、広い空間を移動しながらのワークショップになると、どうしても手話通訳さんが参加者の見える位置にいられなかったり、要約筆記の文字情報が見えづらくなってしまったりという状況が起きてきてしまいます。
そういった中で、参加者どうしでフォローし合って情報を共有する場面もありました。こういった協力が起きる場がもっと生まれてくることが大切なのだと感じます　。

違いを超えて、歩み寄りながら、こういった課題を協力して乗り越えていく。その先に共生社会の形があるように思います。

SLOW LABEL held a workshop and talk with Ofer Amram, Israeli theater director/ performer, who directed a theater production with blind, deaf and deaf-blind performers at “Nalaga’at Center” in 2016. This is a report of the workshop at Shinmei Ikiiki Plaza in Minato-ku, Tokyo on March 2.

The workshop had 16 participants in total, including 6 with hearing or visual impairments, 7 SLOW LABEL specialists (artists and access workers), and 3 interpreters/ .care givers. This was a new try and experiment for us, as this was first time to host deaf- blind people and also those number of deaf/ hearing impaired people.

We had multiple resources such as a Japanese-English interpreter Japanese sign language interpreters and subscribers,  to make sure everyone could get instructions sufficiently. Also some participants needed a sign language interpreter at close range due to low vision, so the interpreters and materials had to be arranged carefully and individually. We did a lot of trials and errors throughout the workshop.

First of all, we had a introductory session in the morning, in which Ofer told participants about his piece. ‘Edgar’, directed by Ofer Amram and performed by blind, deaf and deaf-blind people and also by sign language interpreters, is dissolved the boundary between disabled and non-disabled, or between people who are helped and give a help. After the presentation, participants also introduced by themselves by their sign names.

After that, we got started some activities. One activity examines the blindness in pair. One person close his/ her eyes and the other open his/ her eyes, and the two communivate each other only with a hand put on one’s shoulder. You need to focus and feel your partner and It’s very essential that the two trust and help each other.Participants experienced very sensitive and careful communication through touching.

Also we tried to ‘invent’ sign languages in artistic way. This opened up everyone’s It was a simple surprise for that you could freely create sign language as an expression. For the last activity, people were divided into four groups and  given some texts from Genesis. Each group invented sign languages on those sentences and the sign languages were developed to short sequences of movements. This activity ended up with four beautiful  pieces. It was astonishing that the groups were given same text, but the four piece were completely different. Actually,this opened everyone’s (not only participants’ but also sign language interpreters’) mind that the sign language was not merely something to deliver the information. We could take more exploration and enhance the value with artistic approaches.

Meanwhile, we could have trials and learned a lot about practical thing when diverse people were brought and work together, for example, when people move around during workshop, where should the interpreters and summary writing screen be located and make sure everyone can get information? This experience will help us  improving to create the inclusive circumstance. Also It was quite nice to see scenes the participants followed each other in many ways, not just as disabled and non- disabled, but as friends. This is, we realized through the workshop, quite important cooperation/ collaboration to create something new together.
