２０２５年日本国際博覧会（大阪・関西万博）の万博史上最大級のショーエリアで毎日開催される水と空気のスペクタクルショー『アオと夜の虹のパレード』の鑑賞サポート（日英の音声ガイドと字幕の台本制作）をSLOW LABELで監修させていただきました。「アオと夜の虹のパレード」は、水、空気、光、炎、映像、そして音楽を駆使して、生命(いのち)の物語を壮大なスケールで描くスペクタクルショーです。

今回、SLOW LABELでは劇作家の益山貴司さんをライターに迎え、視覚に障害のある方も楽しめるような工夫を凝らして制作しました。水や光が織りなす演出の臨場感や、アオがさまざまな生き物たちに出会っていく物語の展開を、想像しながら味わっていただける内容を目指しました。

字幕についても、楽曲のコンセプトを曲の冒頭で伝えることで、聴覚に障害のある方が、水や光と同期する音楽を想像しながら、より没入感のある体験をお届けできるようにしています。

この制作にあたっては、大阪を拠点に全国の公共劇場などに鑑賞サポートを普及している一般社団法人日本障害者舞台芸術協働機構（JDPA）にアドバイザーとして参加いただきました。視覚障害や聴覚障害のある方々と共に、現地で実証実験とディスカッションを重ねるなかで、単なる「情報保障」にとどまらず、ショーをより多様な角度から共に楽しめる新たなクリエイティブツールとして仕上げていきました。

SLOW LABEL is honored to have supervised the development of Accessibility Supports, including Japanese and English subtitles and audio guides, for “Under the Midnight Rainbow”—a spectacle of air and water held daily at the Water Plaza, one of the largest show venues in the history of the World Expo, during Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

This breathtaking spectacle tells a grand story of life through a dynamic fusion of water, air, light, flame, imagery, and music. To ensure the experience is accessible to all, SLOW LABEL collaborated with playwright Takashi Masuyama to create an expressive audio guide, enabling audience members who are blind or have low vision to vividly interpret the sensory elements and narrative of the show.

For the subtitles, we introduced a unique approach: by presenting the concept of each musical piece at the beginning, we help audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing to visually imagine the music in sync with the water and light effects—enhancing their immersive experience.

We also received valuable support from the Japan Disability Performing Arts Collaborative (JDPA), an Osaka-based organization that promotes inclusive theater experiences throughout Japan. Through field testing and dialogue with people with visual and hearing impairments, we aimed to go beyond traditional notions of “information accessibility,” and instead co-create innovative creative tools that can be enjoyed from diverse perspectives.
